Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Degree College, Takipur was announced in the year 2015 by Govt. of Himachal Pradesh keeping in view the academic needs of the people of this part of rural area of Distt. Kangra locally known as “Changar Area”. The foundation stone laying ceremony for construction of the new building of the college took place on September 7, 2015 by then Hon’ble CM late Sh. Virbhadra Singh which was another step towards fulfillment of the long pending dream of the people. The new building of the college was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Sh. Jai Ram Thakur on 13th February 2020. The college is located on national highway and offers a panoramic view.
Though, still in its nascent stage, the college has opened new vistas for the public, especially girls hailing from rural areas in the vicinity, realising their dream of higher education. The opening of this college has given a boost to women empowerment through the successful education campaign “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.” We can claim with a sense of satisfaction and pride that about 80% of the registered students in the college are girls.
The college offers multiple subjects of one’s choice in Humanities, Commerce and Science under the annual system introduced by Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla and Sardar Patel University Mandi. In the first academic session, a record 199 students were admitted to the first semester of Arts and Commerce streams. In academic session 2022-23, 584 students took admission in Science, Commerce and Arts.
In order to ensure academic growth and overall development of the students, the best infrastructure is being provided to students.
